Phazon Designs

Hello, Welcome to the World of Atomic v5. This website was created by Metroid and is copyrighted
to Metroid, Phazon Designs, and World of Atomic, all being mine. I made this website because
I wanted it to be simple to learn/get better at Atomic Chess. I have worked hard to do just this
And I hope this website helps you learn how to play Atomic Chess and get good. Have fun!

World of Atomic :: General :: Piece Values

Piece Values

Here you will find the piece value for each piece, This may help you if you are a beginner, Although I don't think of pieces in point(s) value, This can be very useful for a beginner player because the value of pieces for normal chess are much different than the value for Atomic chess. Although Atomic piece value to everybody isn't the same, This might help you a little bit.

Piece Atomic Chess Value
Pawn 1
Bishop 1.25
Knight 1.25
Rook 3.50
Queen 7

Some description of the pieces.

Pawn Value

The pawn is sometimes very valuable in endgames sometimes, Having two or more pawns in a endgame v.s your opponent in a endgame is very good (If all other pawns are blocked from promoting and there is no queen on board) if your opponent has an even amount of pieces as you e.g You have six pawns and your opponent has three pawns and one knight and one bishop and all of your opponents pawns are blocked from promoting, You actually win because the pawns are able to promote to queens! So therefore your opponent can't stop all three pawns from promoting with only two pieces v.s three pawns. Here is a diagram example.

White to move and plays ...1. e5 bd8 2. e6 kg8 3. e7 bxe7 (to stop pawn from promotion) 4. b7 Nb8 5. e7 Nxe7 ( to stop pawn from promoting)     6. b8=Q Kf7 7. Qe5 Kf8 8. Qg8 Ke8 9. Qe7# and white wins because of the great value of extra pawns in a endgame!

Bishop Value

Bishops are not as valuable to me as Knights because, Knights can cover more space than a bishop and change from dark squares to light squares bishops can't (obviously) So therefore, I think Knights are more valuable than Bishops! Bishops in endgames can't mate as easy as Knights because they are limited to the same colored square like I said before.

Knight Value

Knights are sometimes great pieces for endgames, It has much more square-radius than bishops (as I said earlier). So that is why the knight s a little more valuable in endgames.

Rook Value

Rooks are extremely good pieces for endgames, And can even win one if kings are not connected even if there are no trapped pawns! And can keep your opponent king away from your own, The rook is much much better than knights or bishops in endgames, Although in openings and early middle game they are almost useless, They come in handy in late middle games and endgames allot, You should always keep good care of the rook in Atomic games and try to never lose one, Unless you win a queen or have to give it up or get blown up Here is a diagram example of how the rook wins in a endgame.

White wins by using the following tactic (notice the black king can't reach the white king so must make a run for it) 1. Rd2 Kf3 2. Re2 Kf4 3. Re3 Kf5 4. Re4 Kg5 5. Rf4 Kg6 6. Rf5 Kg7 7. Rf6 Kh7 8. Rg6 Kh8 9. Rg7 and Black can play Kh7 or Kg8 and both those lose because of Rook takes King, So at ICC that would be 1-0.

Queen Value

The Queen is extremely valuable because in endgames, It is unstoppable unless the "enemy" has a queen too! And it can cover a 8 square radius basically. Just because black and white are even in pieces doesn't mean its even, If black and white are even in material and black or white decides (this happens ALLOT in Atomic) to use a Queen to take 9 points in pieces (Normal Chess wise) Then the person who traded queen or 9 points (Normal Chess wise) is usually "dead" because the Queen can maneuver so well, And its your turn to move!

Well, That is it for this section of the the website, I hope this came of use to you!
